Sacramento, CA – 19 May 2018 – The revelation of last year’s Amgen Tour of California Womens’ Race Empowered with SRAM, Cuban Champion Arlenis Sierra (Astana Women’s Team) did not disappoint in the finale as she dusted off the competition in Sacramento. After 20 laps of the 2.2-mile Capitol circuit downtown, Sierra outsprinted Alexis Ryan (CANYON//SRAM Racing) and Emma White (Rally Cycling) to take the final stage of the Amgen Tour of California Women’s Race Empowered With SRAM.

With Katie Hall’s magnificent performance during the final kilometers of the mountainous Stage 2 in South Lake Tahoe, the overall was all but an after thought, which was a welcomed sentiment for the rider and team that lost the the race lead by one second the previous year. As such, the stage in Sacramento was tailored for the sprinters.

Despite a course that kept even the most daring well within sight of the peloton, a few riders would take their chance off the front. The most successful attempt came from Liane Lippert (Team Sunweb), who for her efforts earned the Breakaway from Heart DiseaseTM Most Courageous Rider Jersey.

At the end, however, the sprinters would have their say. Kendall Ryan (Team TIBCO-Silicon Valley Bank) the Visit California Sprint Jersey leader heading into the stage would suffer a mechanical in the final turn toward the finish line, which left the door open to Sierra, Kendall’s sister ALexis and the precocious Emma White, who was slated to return to return to her studies immediately following the race to wrap up her sophomore year in college.
