Sacramento, CA – 19 May 2018 – Fernando Gaviria (Quick-Step Floors) was coy about his chances at the 2018 Amgen Tour of California during the kick-off press conference. Coming off sudden rash of injuries, he had every right to be. But after 7 days of racing, the Colombian speedster walked away with the green Visit California Sprint Jersey after winning all three sprint stages.

In a photo finish in Sacramento, Gaviria needed a late throw to pip the hard charging Maximilian Walscheid (Team Sunweb), who raised his hands in victory at the line. Caleb Ewan (Mitchelton-SCOTT) rounded out the podium with a third place finish.

Gaviria’s fellow countryman, Egan Bernal (Team Sky) remained upright during the final stage to take the overall. The precocious Bernal sealed the victory with an overpowering performance in the mountains around South Lake Tahoe, finishing 1:25 ahead of American Tejay van Garderen (BMC Racing Team) and 2:14 in front of another Colombian Daniel Martinez (Team EF Education First-Drapac presented by Cannondale).
